Baby Scharlau #2

Here's the little peanut at 12 weeks. We had the ultrasound done today, just a first trimester screening. Everything looks great! (In case you can't tell on the picture, the head is on the right. There is a hand just above the nose. There is also a foot sticking up on the left side of the photo.) The baby sat very still while getting its picture taken, probably sleeping. Addy did not sit still for her 12 week ultrasound, she was a little jumping bean! The ultrasound tech measured that the baby is about 2 inches long from head to bottom right now, so right where he/she should be!
So everything is going very well. I feel like I am "popping" out much faster this time! I'll be in those maternity pants in no time!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

News...

So Addison has been bugging me this week about posting...she's tired of keeping the secret in! She wants to let everyone know how excited she is to be a big sister!! Her new little sister or brother is due to arrive around June 7th next year. She loves babies and is very excited to have a real one of her own around the house! :) (we'll see how long that lasts!)
I am feeling pretty good now. I went through a few weeks of being completely exhausted and nauseated. Thank goodness the nausea is gone, now I am just tired from chasing Addison around all day, she's quite the handful.
What's new with Addison this week...? We've been working a lot lately on eating with a fork, and she is doing very well. Until she gets tired of it and just decides to throw all her food on the floor. She continues to impress us with her ever expanding vocabulary. We understand her a good portion of the time, but sometimes we just have to let her point to what she wants! With all the cold weather lately we have been confined to the indoors. Mostly because mom and dad don't want to stand out in the cold. We have bundled up and gone for a few walks though, its not so bad once you get your heart pumping! Its going to be a long winter stuck indoors with Addy, we're trying to clean up our basement a little so we can give her a place to run around and burn off some energy!
So that's it for this week, sorry, no new pics! Have a great week!

It's been way too long...

Helping mom rake the leaves.

Having fun sitting in the big pile that mom just raked!

Here, I picked this one just for you! Isn't it pretty?

Check out my little ponytail on the top of my head! :)

So the month of October blew by and here we are almost halfway through November! I'm sad to see the cold and rainy days of November here already. Although, I can't complain too much, just a week ago at this time it was 70 degrees and sunny. By the weekend it was 35 for a high!! Crazy Wisconsin weather!
October was a fairly uneventful month for us. We spent the nice weekends getting things done to the house to get ready for winter. Addy enjoyed playing outside in the leaves! She had fun picking up all the pretty ones!
Addison significantly added to her vocabulary this past month. Every day it seems she says something new. She loves to read books and point out all of the cats, dogs, cows, etc. This afternoon I think she sat by herself with her basket of books for a good 20 minutes 'reading'. Its very cute to watch her! It also gives me a break from keeping her out of the refridgerator, chasing her up the stairs, and just keeping her from tearing the house apart! :) She really is having fun discovering all the things that she is capable of now, which is exhausting for mom and dad!
Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just two weeks away, which means Addison will be 18 months old! How time has flown by!

Go Brewers!

So here we are at the end of September already! I'm not quite sure where the month has gone! It has been a busy month, to say the least. A big THANK YOU to all of you for your thoughts and prayers after Tom's dad passed away. It was a rough time for everyone, but we know that he is not in pain anymore.

Here are a few pics from the last few weeks!

So Addison actually let me put her hair in little itty bitty pigtails. They stayed in for about 30 minutes. She hasn't let me put anything in her hair since. She wants to check out everything that I try to do, so she rips out barettes, etc right away.

This month we have been doing a lot of talking! She is a little parrot, repeating everything that we say! Its very cute! Addy definitely has a mind of her own, she is a very determined little girl when she decides that she wants to do something. The little tantrums are oh so fun. She's also teething again, so that is probably part of the problem. I love runny noses! Never leave home without a pocket full of kleenex!

She has really been a pretty good girl this month. She is a very lovey little girl, she gives GREAT hugs and kisses! :)

Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers who clinched the NL Wildcard spot this afternoon. Tom and I went to the game against the Cubs with some friends. It was a great game! After the Brewers had won, we stayed at Miller Park to watch the NY Mets lose to Florida! It was all so fun! This is the first time in 26 years the Brew Crew have made it to the playoffs! GO BREWERS!!

This morning Addison and I, along with some friends and co-workers from St. Lukes, walked in the Komen Race for the Cure to raise money for Breast Cancer research. Two co-workers of mine and Tom's sister Sherry have been battling breast cancer, so we did this in honor of them! There were over 12,000 walkers/runners today and more than $1 million was raised!

Happy 105th Harley-Davidson!

Labor Day weekend was a big weekend for us here in the Scharlau household. We attended some of the festivities around town celebrating Harley-Davidsons 105th Anniversary. There were block parties all over downtown, a big celebration with music, etc at the Summerfest grounds, and different events at all the dealerships and Harley plants all over town. It really was a lot of fun seeing the bikes everywhere! Saturday morning was the big parade (see pic above). There were 7500 bikes in the parade!! We watched for a little over an hour, and we may have seen about half of the bikes. There were riders from all over the world! It was neat to see how everyone customizes their bikes to make it their own! Addison liked the parade too. She got a little scared when the police bikes (from all over the country) went by with their sirens on. After they went by she was fine and was waving to all the riders going by! :)
Here we are watching the parade come down Wisconsin Ave. Hannah enjoyed the parade too! She came up to stay with us for the weekend so we didn't have to find a babysitter every night! Addison loves having her Auntie Hannah around! :)
By Sunday, I was tired! I'm not used to going out that many nights in a row. Saturday night we saw Bruce Springstein down at the lakefront. He was the big headliner for the whole celebration. Lets just say that HD made the right decision bringing in the Boss instead of Elton John like they did for the 100th. I don't think anyone lost their jobs this year! :)
September 2nd Tom and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. (And actually, the 105th Anniversary was also the 5th Anniversary of our first date,in case anyone cares to know.) We didn't do anything special. We both had to work and didn't feel like getting a sitter after our hectic weekend, so we stayed in and had chinese food from our favorite chinese restaurant, Emperor of China.

So life is back to normal. Addy is learning new words every day. She repeats so many things that we say! She loves to get into everything around the house. Addison has discovered that she is now tall enough to get things off the dining room table or strong enough to pull herself up on a chair to get what she wants (little stinker!) In the past weeks she has had four teeth push through, including her two bottome 1 yr molars. She now has all 4 top front, 4 bottom front and top and bottom 1year molars. So we just got over the runny nose etc from teething and now she has a cold!! Oh well, just the first of many I'm sure she will have this winter!

Addison really is a lot of fun to play with these days. As you can see in the pic above, she decided she wanted to put on ALL of her socks. So daddy put them on for her! She looked like she had ski boots on!

Here we are today, Addy and Momma's day together. We were sitting in the kitchen eating a banana when I took this pic of us. I thought it was cute! Have a great week!

August has been busy!

So August has been a busy month for us here in the Scharlau household, as you can tell by my lack of blogging! The weeks have just flown by and its hard to believe we are looking at Labor Day weekend already-just a week away! At the beginning of the month we went to the Wisconsin State Fair. We went to see the animals-Addison was a little freaked out by how big the cows and horses were. She liked looking at them from afar.
Addison enjoyed her first State Fair corndog-and boy was it yummy! She also had some strawbery gellato which she really liked too! We didn't see as much at the Fair as we normally do. As most of you know, you never get to do as much as you want to do with a one year old around! But we did have fun!

This is Addy checking out the baby bunny in our backyard. As you can tell, they really aren't afraid of people. It takes a lot to scare them away. They keep coming back to eat my plants. Arrgh....how frustrating! Thank goodness for Liquid Fence or I'd have nothing left in my yard! Now I just have to keep the chipmunks from eating my tomatoes!!
Addy is going to be my gardening buddy(in the future!). She still loves to dig in the dirt and get into the flowers like her Momma and Grandpa!
What else did we do this month....? We went to the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market, which is ALWAYS fun. You never know what you will find! There's always lots of fun things to put in the garden. The flea markets are four times a summer, and there is one more to go in September. I think Tom and I may try to go on our own so we can really get to look at things. :)
When we weren't out and about, we were home working on the house. Tom has been busy painting our garage, and has started painting the trim around some of the windows on the house. We're hoping to get the rest painted by the end of fall. This week we are getting some new windows put in in our dining/living room area. Hopefully it will help to make our home a little more energy effiecient come winter!
Next weekend is the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary, so we will partake in some of the festivities down at the lakefront. Hannah will be coming to stay with us for the weekend to help take care of Addison. I guess thats it for us... 'til the next post....

Exhausting weekend

Posing with daddy

Mmm....ice cream sandwhich!

What a busy weekend! Probably the busiest of the summer! And what a beautiful weekend it was! The weekend actually started Thursday when I picked up Hannah to come stay with us. She was our babysitter for the weekend and her help was so greatly appreciated!
Friday Tom and I went to The Police concert here in Milwaukee. It was a GREAT show! We really had a lot of fun! Saturday we went to the Brady Street Festival down on the East Side. We did some shopping, listened to some music and just enjoyed being out and about for a little while. From there we went to Tom's parents for a Scharlau family reunion. It was nice to have everyone together at one time, it doesn't happen often unfortunately! So we visited and we ate, then it was off to the Brewers game! What a great game it was (way to go Ryan Braun- 2 run homerun to give the Brewers the win!!) Tom and I had a great time there too, we love going to Miller Park!
Today was our day to relax a bit(well, for part of the day). We did some work around the house. Tom started painting the house, its a big project but it will look nice when we're done!
This evening we went to the Milwaukee County Zoo for Tom's work picnic. As you can see above Addy enjoyed the ice cream! So we spent the evening at the zoo. Then it was time for little girls to get home for a bath and bed! She was exhausted! So are mom and dad after our busy weekend! We really had lots of fun, we have been looking forward to this weekend all summer! I hope all of you had as much fun as we did!

4th of July

What a cutie!

Addison and Alma (2 in two weeks!)

Addison (13 mos.) and Milo (10 mos.)

Here we are, heading off to watch the Wauwatosa 4th of July Parade.

No, we weren't in the parade, just being festive!

What a busy weekend! I think we need a few days off to recoup from our few days off!!

As always, the 4th of July weekend was filled with friends and fun. For the 4th, our friends Brad and Lori (and kids Alma & Milo), hosted their annual 4th of July party. We watched the parade, drank bloody mary's and had a cookout. We had such a beautiful day, and had a great time at the party. There were lots of other kids for Addy to play with!

As I had said in my previous post, I had to work 3rd shift on the 4th. So I got to watch the fireworks from the top of our 12 floor parking structure at the hospital. I got to see the fireworks all over Milwaukee county and even some from neighboring counties. Addy was in bed for the fireworks, she was tired. Next year she will probably be a little more interested!

Saturday afternoon we were invited to a pool party/get together. Addy went swimming in the big pool and got to play with some other little girls that are about her age. We had a great time relaxing by the pool with friends(when we weren't watching Addison to make sure she didn't jump into the pool on her own!)

Sunday, we did some work around the house. In the afternoon our friends Ed and Sarah (with kids Zoe, Henry & Silas) came over for a visit. They are in town from Washington state, so it was great to visit with them. We were sad to see them go, it will most likely be a while before we get to see them again!

In all, it was a wonderful weekend. But we were all exhausted to say the least!

Hope all of you are doing well!!

Sitting outside in her sundress

Behind the wheel already?

Um...can I get a milk over here?

Not too much to report for the last two weeks. Just trying not to get eaten alive by MOSQUITOS!! They are awful!
Our 4th of July will be pretty low key. We'll be watching the Annual Wauwatosa 4th of July Parade with friends, and then unfortunately I have to work 3rd shift that night, so no fireworks for me! Oh well...Addy will be in bed by the time the fireworks go off anyways!
Take care everyone, have a safe 4th!!

First visit to the zoo!!

Today was our first visit to the Milwaukee County Zoo. Addison loved it! We saw the monkeys, elephants, polar bears, and lots more! The best part is that we have a ZooPass now, so we can go whenever we want! Anyone up for going to the zoo??

This week at the Scharlau's

Not too much to report this week actually. Addison went to the pediatrician this week for her 1 yr old checkup. She weighs 21 lb 5 oz and is 31 inches tall. So she is tall and thin! (I'm hoping she stays that way!) Her 1 yr molars are also making their way in, so we have had some crabby teething times in the last couple of weeks. But overall she is doing very well, running around everywhere, getting into everything. The joys of toddlerhood!
The past week has been a very wet one. We have had lots of rain and some very rough storms. Luckily our basement has stayed dry. Our neighbors down half of our street were not so lucky and ended up with at least 6 inches of water in their basement, we are up just high enough to not get any. We're very thankful that we did not have the damage that other areas around the state have had!

Happy 1st Birthday Addison

Who's the big one year old??

Here's our first ride in the car facing forward! She thought it was the best!

Pulling bows off the presents is WAY better than opening them!

These are MY bows and you can't have them!

Mmm...Chocolate birthday cake! She very much enjoyed the cake in case you can't tell! She cleaned her plate! When she was done, it was straight to the bathtub to get cleaned up (there was no way just a washcloth was going to clean her up!)
Addison's birthday party was lots of fun! We had lunch, opened lots of presents and ate cake! She got lots of fun new toys and lots of cute new clothes! She is going to be the best dressed one year old this summer!
The whole weekend was so beautiful, just like the weekend she was born! We spent lots of time outside. On Memorial Day Addy even tried out her new pool since it was 80 degrees out! (quite a contrast today, its only 50 degrees!!!) She loved splashing in it, I'm sure it will provide lots of fun for us all summer long!

Pics from the last 3 weeks

May has been a busy month, its hard to believe Addy's 1st birthday is in 5 days! We have spent lots of time outdoors, working on the house and letting Addison explore the yard. She's fun to watch! Everything is so new and exciting!

11 months old

Addy finally figured out the walking thing!
Over the last week or so she has discovered how she can walk all around the house!
How fun for her, but it sure keeps mom and dad on their toes!

The weather has been beautiful so we have spent lots of time outside. Addison loves to be out in the yard, feeling the grass, and yes, tasting the dirt, again! She loves to walk up and down the sidewalk and likes to wave at the other kids and doggies walking by!
